We are exploring innovative ways to use our data holdings and technology to keep children safe.

A Child Protection Decision Support Tool has been developed to provide child protection practitioners with important information about:

  • Key services history data, such as hospital emergency department presentations, about children who are reported to the department and their parents
  • The likelihood of– a child being substantiated within one year; and a child being placed in out of home care within three years from the time of report.

The Tool was developed using analysis from over 130,000 previous child protection cases and has been co-designed with a group of child protection practitioners from across the state.

It will be used by child protection intake practitioners in the department’s East Division for approximately three months from October 2018 as part of the department’s risk assessment framework.
