In February 2017, the Victorian Government announced plans to build a new youth justice facility on a preferred site on Hoppers Lane South, Werribee South.
In response to feedback from the Wyndham community about the preferred Hoppers Lane South site, the Government made a commitment to examine alternative sites for the new facility within Wyndham.
In close collaboration with Wyndham City Council, the Government has confirmed an alternative site for the new facility. The new site is located west of Werribee, in the vicinity of Cherry Creek.
The alternative site has been assessed as suitable based on the same business case criteria applied to the assessment of the Hoppers Lane South site and been considered by the Government, Council and other relevant authorities. The project will be delivered to the same budget and timeline.
Further information about this project and the identification of the alternative site at Cherry Creek can be downloaded from this page, including:
- An overview of the original business case and additional information about the alternative site, which includes the detailed criteria used to assess the initial 16 locations, and subsequently the site at Cherry Creek.
- An addendum with further information about the new site at Cherry Creek
- A map of the new location.
This important investment in new infrastructure is one of several measures being implemented to overhaul the youth justice system in Victoria to ensure the safety, security and wellbeing of staff, young people and the wider community.
