Residents will be moving to community-based homes as part of the Colanda redevelopment.
The redevelopment of Colanda, Victoria's last disability institution, was announced last year. Colanda’s remaining 76 residents will be moving to up to 15 community-based homes as part of the redevelopment. The department has been working closely with all residents and their families or guardians to determine accommodation preferences including location.
Up to six homes will be located in Colac, there will be up to seven in Geelong, one in Warrnambool, and one in Ballarat, with the final redevelopment of the site to be completed by mid-2019.
As homes are planned and completed, residents and their families or guardians will participate in Home Groups where they can have their say about the fit-out of their new homes.
