Absolutely everyone is the state disability plan 2017–2020 for the whole of the Victorian Government. We are committing to a range of action for achieving greater inclusion, in partnership with the community.

The state disability plan 2017-2020 tackles the negative attitudes and barriers that more than one million Victorians with a disability deal with on a daily basis.

It sets out our priorities and actions for achieving inclusion under four key pillars:

  • Inclusive communities
  • Health, housing and wellbeing
  • Fairness and safety
  • Contributing lives.

The plan focuses on key areas to drive change such as adopting a universal design approach, changing attitudes, increasing access to affordable housing, public transport, schools and jobs. We are also ensuring that people with a disability are able to make the most of the NDIS through a series of actions. These include working with communities to identify and address barriers to participation.

The plan’s priorities and early actions are the first step to achieving the government’s long-term vision for inclusion.

The ideas in the plan are based on feedback and contributions from people with a disability, and submissions received during consultation.

Visit our State disability plan website for more information and for a range of accessible versions of the plan.

Disability employment strategy

Internal workforce - employment of people with disability

We want the department to be a leader in employment of people with disability, offering innovative career pathways and providing access to real development opportunities.

We know that achieving this goal requires more than just recruiting people with disability.

To be successful:

  • It requires us to tackle the barriers to employment that people with disability face every day
  • It requires leadership to drive change and to create an organisation that values and supports disability initiatives
  • Most importantly, it requires us to listen to the people with disability who are currently in our workplace and to ensure they are well supported and that development opportunities are equitable.

Disability action plan

The department's Disability action plan aligns with the Department of Health and Human Services Disability employment strategy 2018–2020 that focuses on the internal workforce.

The Disability action plan highlights actions from the five focus areas of the Disability employment strategy: profile and leadership; recruitment; induction; inclusive workplaces and retention.

For more information about the Disability employment strategy, email the department's Diversity and Inclusion Unit.

Every opportunity: Victorian economic participation plan for people with disability 2018–2020

A key catalyst for change in the department is the Every opportunity: Victorian economic participation plan for people with disability 2018–2020 target of six per cent employment of people with disability across all Victorian Government departments by 2020, increasing to 12 per cent by 2025.

For more information visit the Every opportunity on the State Disability Plan website.

Both will play a critical role in giving direction and strength to the department's Disability action plan by building internal capability and delivering on employment related actions.
